Step 1/ Principle 1
Realize that I’m not God. I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to to the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable. “Happy are those that know they are spiritually poor,” (Matthew 5:3).
During the month of January my team, the spirit and I lead our flock of Celebration Children to understand what it means to be powerless and about denial.
Denial is to not take any responsibility for your part and to blame other people, places or situations for your problems.
Powerlessness is to realize that you are not in control, that you can not be the conductor to everyone and every situation, verses to act out of pride to act like God, according to your own wants, needs or desires.
One of the lessons consisted of a project where we made storm bottles. Ingredients: water, oil, blue sugar free coolaide mix, sand, shells, sequins, glitter, foam cross, foam boat, and foam fish.
I enjoyed sharing with the children about the storms of our lives. The storm may be dark, turbulent, with objects floating around banging into us, but all we need is God. Our faith that God will be there in the storm and carry us through so we will rise to the other side. The oil in the bottle brought the foam boat, fish, and cross to the other side of the storm. I told the children to imagine they are the fish, Jesus is the cross, and the boat are the people that help us on our journey.
With community and fellowship God promises joy. We are all on a journey. God has a purpose for each one of us. My pastor on Sunday discussed the concept of Character. To know your character you can ask yourself who am I when no one is watching? Recognize who you are? Are you a child of God or are you a child of earthly desires? How are you going to start your journey of transformation? What is your response to God’s desire for your transformation? Will you allow God to transform you? Will you seek justice, advocate for others, love kindness and walk in humility with God. (Refer to Michca 6: 1-8).
